Covid and travel retrictions had something of an impact on the numbers for this event which was held on Saturday 11th December but despite that, a great afternoon was had.
Roger Brown was Head Boy of the year and one of the main organisers.
"We started planning a year ahead (around last Christmas) and initially hoped to have it coinciding with our last day at school - that was a day we never had as Mr Young banned us in his first year as Head. Covid put paid to that idea and so we aimed for the Christmas period when many people living away might be coming home anyway to see family and friends."
Little did they know that Covid restricitions would still be in place however the reunion went ahead with everyone displaying good Covid manners.
The event involved a buffet in the Silver Robin which Class of 1981 found to be almost unrecognisable as the old canteen, as well as a guided tour of the school, old parts and new, from Mr Peel. After the tour is was back to the Silver Robin for coffee and more chat before retiring to Neds and then the hard core finished up with a meal in the Dirty Duck.
"It seems like no one wanted it to end" said Roger.
"Thanks to Mr Peel, Cathy Steenson and two of her lovely staff as well as Sam, the facilities manager."
The last reunion the year group held was at 25 years.
"It was a lot easier to arrange this one than the last one at 25 years or the previous at 10 years. However it was well worth the effort as we reconnected and shared stories, memories, photos and even an old school tie or two."
Having had such an enjoyale afternoon and evening, the group are planning to do it all again.
"We are planning to do this again, a lot sooner than the last time. Maybe in 5 years. I hope that those who couldn’t come last time will be able to next time".
Roger has asked that if you were part of Class of 1981 and would like to make contact to get in touch with him via Sullivan Connect. He's hoping that there could be 50 or 60 at the next reunion.
