Hailing from Bangor, Darren was an accomplished sportsman, always full of energy and with a great sense of humour.
He was a popular and well-liked friend of everyone and a much loved member of the Class of 1993 year group. His friends have shared the following words.
"Darren often played rugby for Sullivan on a Saturday morning and hot-footed it to play football for the Boys' Brigade in the afternoon.
He made the Hooker position his own whilst at Sullivan, tough as nails and strong as an ox, he could run all day.
Captaining the 2nd XV to an unbeaten season in 1992 and featuring heavily in the Sullivan 1st XV team that reached the quarterfinals of the School’s Cup in 1993, Darren led from the front.

Darren was always up for a challenge, and we have great memories of him putting everyone to shame on the school ski trips as well as being at the forefront of the laughter on our school trip to Russia."
Darren studied law after leaving Sullivan and became one of NI’s leading solicitors, specialising in criminal law. He was a partner with the firm, McConnell Kelly, who described him as “one of the most successful solicitors in Northern Ireland, as rated by his clients and his enviable track record of case successes.”
Darren will be greatly missed by many people, in particular his friends from Sullivan, who will all cherish their special memories of him. In particular we extend our condolences to his wife Nic, son and daughter Jack and Sophie, his parents, siblings and wider family circle.
A Service of Thanksgiving for Darren's life will take place on Monday 7th August in West Presbyterian Church, Rathmore Road Bangor at 11.30a.m. followed by a private family committal.
