When Eric Clapton received a Grammy for his album “If I Could Change the World ‘ at Madison Square Gardens in 1997, he played the title song with a Lowden guitar.
Former Sullivan pupil George Lowden, who attended the school in the sixties (his father Noel was also a Geography teacher there), began making guitars professionally in 1974, with no training or wood-working skills.
Today his company, Lowden Guitars, based in Ballynahinch, employs over 80 people and he's perhaps most well known, of late, for making guitars for Ed Sheeran, producing the 'Sheeran by Lowden' range of guitars for sale.
Ed and Eric are just two of many, many well known musicians trusting George and Lowden Guitars to make the tools of their trade.
George features as part of the ‘Our Story in the Making: NI Beyond 100’ series which showcases stories that capture a spirit of inclusivity, mutual respect and optimism for Northern Ireland in its centenary year.
